*The purpose for this blog is to serve as a course exercise in blog development*
**For the purposes of this blog, please take the role of my 9th grade biology students. This blog will be where I post some homework assignments and general announcements for the class.**
Later in the coming weeks we will be discussing and going over the plant cell. Just so we can get a great head start on this up coming topic I would like you to click on the following link Plant cell organelles. This will take you to a site providing a labeled plant cell and all of its organelles. For your assignment I need you to comment and tell me the name of two organelles found in the plant cell and describe their function.
The nuclear membrane is the membrane that surrounds the nucleus.
ReplyDeleteCytoplasm is the cytoplasm jellylike material outside the cell nucleus in which the organelles are located.
Thanks for the comment Amanda. Not only does the nuclear membrane surround the nucleus but it decides what goes into and out of the nucleus!
ReplyDeleteCells are fascinating to learn about. I always enjoyed that part of science classes. I guess because it involves diagrams, microscopic pictures, and models. As a visual person, grasping material in that way reinforced my learning. Also I think it would be mega-amazing to create abstract paintings based from reference pictures of cells under a microscope. (I am about to do something similar with patterns and structure of rocks and minerals)
DeleteThe Cell Wall is one of the distinguishing characteristics of a plant cell. It is a rigid structure that provides support for both the cell and the entire plant.
ReplyDeleteThe Chloroplasts are another organelle found in plant cells (but not animal cells). They take in sunlight and convert it to energy (photosynthesis) as well as produce chlorophyll, which gives the plant it's green color.
Awesome description of the two organelles you chose, Jonathan. Great job taking it a step further and explaining that an animal cell does not contain chloroplast only plant cells and some protists contain this organelle.

DeleteThe cell wall gives the cell its structure, as well as, teams up with the cell walls of other cells to contribute to the structure of the plant itself.
ReplyDeleteThe chloroplast is an organelle containing chlorophyll. It is where photosynthesis takes place.
